UniFi UNAS rack-mount network-attached storage — drive bays, NVMe cache, 10-gigabit ports, RAID options and power redundancy compared.
Three rack-mount NAS units span 1U and 2U, and two of them cost the same $499. The UNAS Pro ($499, 2U) is the capacity pick: seven bays on a Cortex-A57 at 1.7 GHz with 8 GB of memory, one 10G SFP+ port and no NVMe slots. The UNAS Pro 4 ($499, 1U) spends the same money differently, on four bays, two M.2 NVMe slots for SSD cache, two 10G SFP+ ports and a 2.0 GHz clock. The UNAS Pro 8 ($799, 2U) keeps the Pro 4's processor, cache slots and SFP+ pair at eight bays, and adds 16 GB of memory, a multi-gig 10 GbE RJ45 and two hot-swappable 550 W power modules in place of the USP-RPS input the other two rely on. All three list SMB and NFS, RAID 5, 6 and 10, snapshots, encryption and Time Machine backup. Ubiquiti sells drives separately for all three, and none carries a camera rating — recording is the NVR category.
Eight bays, two NVMe cache slots, 16 GB of memory and three 10-gigabit ports, behind a pair of hot-swappable power supplies. Power redundancy is built in here, where the UNAS Pro and UNAS Pro 4 hand it to a separate USP-RPS.
Shares the UNAS Pro 8's 2.0 GHz processor, two NVMe cache slots and pair of 10G SFP+ ports, in 1U with four bays instead of eight. Memory, the RJ45 port and the power design are where it steps down.
Seven bays for $499 works out to $71 a bay, against $100 on the UNAS Pro 8 and $125 on the UNAS Pro 4. What it gives up to the Pro 8 is everything around the bays: no NVMe cache, one SFP+ port instead of two, 1.7 GHz instead of 2.0 and half the memory.
