UniFi Protect NVR appliances for off-gateway camera storage — camera channels, drive bays, uplink speed, and power redundancy compared.
Two UniFi Protect NVRs span 1U and 2U, for recording that has outgrown a gateway. The G2 ($699, 1U) takes four 2.5/3.5" drives on a 75 W budget, carries 8 GB of memory, and is rated for 30 4K cameras — 20 if the built-in HDMI viewport is in use. The G2 Pro ($999, 2U) doubles the bays to eight and the memory to 16 GB for a 50 4K camera rating. They share a processor, a 10G SFP+ uplink with a 2.5 GbE RJ45 beside it, USP-RPS power redundancy, and support for Protect, Access and Connect on one appliance, so the $300 between them buys capacity rather than speed. Drives are not included with either.
Four bays, 8 GB of memory and 30 4K cameras in 1U, with a 10G SFP+ uplink and RPS support. It exists because recording on the gateway stops scaling long before the camera count does.
Double the bays, double the memory and 50 4K cameras, on the same processor and the same ports as the G2. The $300 buys capacity, not speed.
